On Automotive Cloud 9 ft. Achyut Jajoo of Salesforce
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
Tuesday Feb 06, 2024
Connected cars are forecasted to make up 95 percent of all vehicles on the road by 2030, with each one generating an estimated 25 gigabytes of data per hour – as much data as it would take someone to stream nearly 600 hours of music. How such data may be leveraged for new revenue channels through personalized, value-added features is a prime area of focus for the automotive industry.
Achyut Jajoo, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Manufacturing and Automotive at Salesforce, joins Carl to discuss the relationship between connected cars and the Automotive Cloud, how the industry can enhance its communication with customers, and the promise that software-defined vehicles represent.
Carl and Achyut also travel back to 1999 to the founding of Salesforce in San Francisco and reminisce about fond memories of learning to drive when they were teenagers.

Thursday Jan 18, 2024
Like every other aspect of automotive, the retail arm of the industry is undergoing immense change. Yet one constant remains for dealerships, no matter where they are located or which logos are on the building: it's the people business first, the car business second.
Jennifer Lennox is the Vice President of People, Culture, and Learning at AutoCanada, a North American dealer group operating over 80 franchised locations comprised of nearly 30 brands. In this episode of AutoVision News Radio, Jennifer expands on AutoCanada's core values and explains why the organization invests in its relationships with employees and customers.
Carl also recalls his time in automotive retail and his Women in Literature class in college, as Jennifer shares a powerful message about why women professionals should embrace who they are.

Safety Through Synchronization ft. Paul McGlone of Seeing Machines
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Thursday Jan 11, 2024
Consumer trust is one of the most significant pieces of the ADAS puzzle. Although the value of consumer trust with regard to ADAS is well acknowledged, it's no less important, especially as technologies like DMS enter the picture.
What is the link between consumer trust and the fully optimized synchronization of ADAS and DMS? When the external and internal sensors are on the same page, communicating in tandem with the intent to keep vehicle occupants safe, what would that do for consumer trust?
Seeing Machines has been tackling these and other complex questions for over two decades, driven by an internal purpose of getting everyone home safe. CEO Paul McGlone joins Carl to discuss the relationship between ADAS and DMS, why consumer trust is essential, and how the company continues to rally around its founding principles of safety.

Daily traffic volumes have rebounded from pandemic lows in 2020, but perhaps not surprisingly, traffic and pedestrian fatalities have risen in tandem. Maybe also not surprisingly, unsafe driving behaviors like speeding, texting, and operating under the influence continue to impact these statistics. Among the questions are why people engage in risky behaviors behind the wheel and what countermeasures can be implemented to prevent such behavior.
These questions are at the core of the latest Traffic Safety Culture Index (TSCI) survey from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, released in December 2023. The latest TSCI survey identified six driver profiles and examined the social approval and/or disapproval of certain unsafe driving habits.
Dr. Rebecca Steinbach, Senior Researcher for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, joins Carl to provide additional insight into the findings of the latest TSCI survey. Dr. Steinbach explains the six driver profiles, how perceptions towards speeding have changed, and the little things we can do to become safer drivers.

Pushing The Needle Forward ft. Alisyn Malek of SkillFusion
Friday Nov 17, 2023
Friday Nov 17, 2023
As the world moves towards an electric vehicle revolution, the need for certified technicians to maintain the charging infrastructure is greater than ever. For EVs to reach their full potential, consumers must have complete faith and confidence in the charging infrastructure. Like how consumers think nothing of a gas pump when they pull up, building that same level of trust with charging stations is imperative.
SkillFusion co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Alisyn Malek joins Carl for an in-depth discussion on this topic, sharing insight into how SkillFusion is developing a nationwide talent pipeline that can operate and maintain electric vehicle chargers for peak performance and availability. Alisyn also recalls her early years at General Motors, her time with May Mobility, and why "pushing the needle forward" is one of her guiding philosophies.

Friday Oct 27, 2023
For most of his life, as far back as the late 1960s and early '70s, Joel Ayres has had a heart for addressing the needs of society. His passion for charitable work led him to serve on the board of organizations like the Heart Gallery of Sacramento and Big Brothers of Northeast Indiana. Today, Joel is the Executive Director of The Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation, or AACF for short. AACF is a 501c3 nonprofit that helps automotive aftermarket industry members and their families when they need it most.
Before his work with AACF, Joel served on the SEMA Board of Directors and started SEMA Cares in 2007, which oversees all of SEMA’s charitable activities.
Carl Anthony sits down with Joel for this special episode of AutoVision News Radio on the value of sharing our time, talent, and treasure. Joel shares with us the mission of AACF and how SEMA Cares came to fruition. Along the way, Joel takes us back through pivotal moments in his life, including a cancer diagnosis and why he is proud of the legacy his children are carrying on.

All-Wheel Drive & Sustainability ft. Ben DeLand of GKN Automotive
Friday Oct 13, 2023
Friday Oct 13, 2023
Vehicles with all-wheel drive can provide more traction and stability, but how exactly do these systems achieve that? In an oncoming era of electrification, what are the differences and synergies between traditional all-wheel drive systems for gasoline-powered cars and e-drive systems? When we see terms and phrases like torque transfer, traction motor, and inverter, what do they mean? And what, if any, is the relevance of all-wheel drive and e-drive systems to larger-picture topics like sustainability?
AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony visited GKN Driveline North America in Auburn Hills, Michigan, to gain additional insight and perspective. While onsite, Carl met with Ben DeLand, Director of Electrical Hardware Engineering at GKN Automotive. Ben takes Carl through the essential specs of an all-wheel drive system and outlines how GKN's engineering process is formulated with sustainability at its core.

Can Drivers Become Too Comfortable With ADAS?
Friday Oct 06, 2023
Friday Oct 06, 2023
The latest body of research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that drivers who use ADAS features grow comfortable with the technology over time, but the degree of that comfort could raise potential concerns. In essence, drivers who engaged with common ADAS features began to lower their overall attention to the driving task as the study went on. In this solo episode, AutoVision News Radio host Carl Anthony recaps and summarizes the findings from AAA and shares key insights from Dr. William Horrey, technical director for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
